Investing in Arkansas Talent: $7.2 Million in Workforce Development Grants Awarded Across Key Sectors
The Division of Workforce Connections, Office of Skills Development, is proud to announce major investments in the future of Arkansas’s workforce. In its ongoing mission to equip Arkansans with the skills they need to thrive in today’s evolving economy, OSD has awarded approximately $7.2 million in targeted workforce development grants to a wide range of partners across the state. These investments are not only bold, they are business-led and market-driven. Each initiative is designed in response to industry demand, ensuring training efforts directly align with the talent needs of employers.
This round of funding reflects OSD’s continued commitment to high-impact, results-oriented workforce training and economic mobility for all Arkansans. It also reinforces the importance of cross-sector collaboration among educators, employers, community organizations, and training providers.
Key Sectors Targeted
Healthcare: With Arkansas and the nation facing continued shortages in skilled healthcare professionals, this funding will support programs aimed at developing the next generation of nurses, technicians, and allied health workers. These industry-aligned efforts respond to employer demand and will strengthen hospital systems while providing meaningful careers in one of the state’s most essential sectors.
Steel Manufacturing: As Arkansas’s advanced manufacturing economy continues to grow, funding will help train workers for critical roles in steel production and industrial operations. These programs were shaped by employer partnerships and will directly support regional economic expansion.
Transitional Employment Program (Justice-Involved Individuals): One of OSD’s most impactful efforts is focused on second-chance employment. This funding supports training programs developed in collaboration with businesses that are committed to giving justice-involved individuals opportunities to join the workforce and succeed.
Broadband Workforce Training: As broadband expansion continues across Arkansas, this training—developed with input from broadband providers—will build the workforce needed to connect more homes and businesses to high-speed internet and modern communications.
Law Enforcement: Public safety remains a vital workforce priority. This funding supports leadership and communication training for law enforcement personnel, responding to the unique challenges faced by departments statewide and ensuring they’re equipped to serve effectively.
Be Pro Be Proud: This employer-backed initiative continues to lead the way in promoting skilled trades to young Arkansans. By exposing students to high-demand careers in construction, manufacturing, and transportation, it is helping bridge the skills gap and fuel future talent pipelines.
CDL Truck Driving: With the trucking industry facing an ongoing driver shortage, these programs are designed in partnership with logistics companies to fast-track participants into high-wage, high-demand careers as commercial truck drivers.
Building for the Future
This $7.2 million investment represents more than just a financial commitment. It’s a strategic, employer-informed effort to align Arkansas’s workforce with the real-time needs of its economy. Each program funded is business-led, outcomes-driven, and designed to deliver measurable results in the form of job placements, credential attainment, and long-term career advancement.
By supporting targeted training across these key industries, OSD is filling immediate workforce gaps and building a more resilient, inclusive, and future-ready labor force that can adapt to evolving market demands.
OSD is proud of the strong public-private partnerships that are making these programs possible. From rural communities to urban centers, from young students to adults seeking a second chance, Arkansas is investing in its people, and the return on that investment will benefit everyone.
