Arkansas Adult Education Centers to host statewide open house
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (September 10, 2024) – In honor of National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week, September 16-20, 2024, Arkansas Adult Education Centers across the state are opening their doors for a special Adult Education Open House on Thursday, September 19, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. This event invites all Arkansans to discover the wide range of education, training, and workforce preparation services offered at the Centers.
“We believe that education is the key to unlocking new opportunities,” said Dr. Trenia Miles, Director of Arkansas Adult Education. “Sometimes, the biggest challenge is simply taking that first step—walking in and saying, ‘I need help.’ Our Open House is designed to make that first step easier, offering a warm, welcoming environment where individuals can explore our services without any pressure.”
During the Open House, attendees will have the chance to learn more about the variety of free programs available at the Centers, including:
- Integrated Education and Job Training: A program that enables adult learners to earn industry-recognized certifications or credentials while improving their basic academic skills.
- GED® Test Preparation: Offering support to help individuals earn an Arkansas High School Diploma.
- English Language Acquisition (ELA) Classes: Tailored to help non-native speakers improve their English proficiency.
- Workforce Alliance for Growth in the Economy (WAGE™): An employer-driven work-readiness training program designed to equip individuals with essential skills that boost employability.
Arkansas Adult Education is particularly encouraging those who are just one test away from earning their Arkansas High School Diploma to attend the Open House. Since 2021, nearly 900 Arkansans have successfully completed three of the four tests required to pass the GED® exam. Dr. Miles reminds everyone, “It’s never too late to return to an Adult Education Center. We’re here to support you every step of the way.”
